Teramar PX South East Review:
For this review I am using the TPECX70M model. Although Shimano offers lengths and actions for all inshore needs. This is the 7-feet in length, extra-fast action, medium power model. The appearance has a sharp gray finish to it and looks super sleek. For inshore and coastal fishing, I like that its versatile and powerful.
Note: all Shimano fishing rods come with a one-year limited warranty.
X-Blank Technology
This exact model features touchpoints of a 2-inch cork foregrip and 9.6-inch reargrip. Plus an ultralight Ci4+ reel seat and 8 + tip, SeaGuide Zirconia guides. Heavy power and over versions also get a cork butt-end for more anti-slip in the rod holder.
The blank is Shimano’s Hi-Power X blank technology, which uses diagonally-wrapped carbon tape. The design forms an array of “X” shapes on the rod blank’s outermost layer. This size and angle of the x’s deliver precise actions, strength and twist resistance.
Versatile Use
This a fantastic inshore saltwater fishing rod, but also for Northeast lake fishing. Imagine using it as a pike spinning rod, it has great specs for this application. As you can use up to 1 oz. lures and 17-lbs test line of monofilament. This setup is awesome for casting top water, spoons, spinnerbaits, inline spinners and cranks up to 1.25 oz.
Verdict
No matter which model of Teramar you use, this is a beast for inshore salt. The Southeast specific model is perfect for fishing in the bay, gulf or saltwater flats. Especially targeting sea trout, reds or casting deeper waters for snook.

Shimano SpeedMaster Surf Rod Review:
If your style of fishing tends to be land-based. Such as surf, off a rocky ledge or from a jetty this is the rod for you. This specific model is the Shimano SpeedMaster SPMS106MH2. In layman’s terms it’s a 10-feet 6-inches in length, fast action medium-heavy power rod.
Build Quality
First off, the Shimano SpeedMaster is an incredibly well-built rod. It’s made with high-quality materials and feels very durable in your hands. The Spinning series rod length range from 10-feet up to a 12-feet model. All come in a high modulus graphite blank colored dark gray. In your hand it has excellent sensitivity and responsiveness. Which is vital when you’re fishing in the surf, as you need to be able to feel even the slightest nibble on your bait.
Second, the blank gets wrapped with black colored Fuji K-frame alconite guides. Special spacing for them helps reduce line tangles and improves casting accuracy.
Next, you’ll love the diamond or cross style shrink wrap grip, which add extra no slip in wet conditions. Its so comfortable to hold in my hands.
Using it on the beach I noticed that it loads great and the forward motion is smooth. Likewise, releasing pressure didn’t create any snap motions. Its more than capable of targeting kingfish, strippers black drum and more.
Verdict
I’d recommend this series to any angler looking for a high-quality, versatile, and reliable spin rod. It’s an excellent choice for surf fishing, but also works well for pier or jetty fishing.

Curado Casting Review:
If you loved the older Zodias series from Shimano then you should like the Curado casting rod. Think of it as the same blank (without a gloss finish )as a Zodias. Yet with lower grade guides to lower the price. Regardless, this rod has quickly become a favorite among avid anglers. Especially those looking for a full Curado outfit at a reasonable price.
One of the key features of the Curado casting rod is versatility. Whether you’re fishing for bass, walleye, pike, or other species, the it should handle it all. I also appreciate that it comes in a range of lengths and powers to suit your specific needs. Ranging from light finesse to power techniques.
Less Expensive Zodias Fishing Rod
Like the Zodias rods, the Curado features Hi-Power X graphite blank construction. Which uses diagonally-wrapped carbon tape forming “X” shapes on the outermost layer. As a result, you get improved feel, casting distance, and strength of the blank.
Improving on the 2021 offering, Shimano adds the Ci4+ carbon material for the reel seat. This makes it more lightweight and adds sensitivity. Next,, they replaced the old cork handle with one made of EVA. While some anglers may worry this is a downgrade, it feel nice in the hand and doesn’t decrease all day comfort.
Moving on, the guides for the Curado rods are Fuji tangle-free K, with FazLite inserts. Rated for monofilament, fluorocarbon or PowerPro braided fishing lines. It’s runs fishing line with ease during cast and reeling in.
Verdict
All this said, the Curado rod isn’t a Zodias and that’s okay if you prefer to spend less. Its a fantastic choice if you’re thinking of upgrading from the $100-$130 class rods. Buying it provides you with a a solid, precise, tournament-level pole to add to your arsenal.

Solara A Spinning Rod Review:
The Solara is one of the best Shimano fishing rods if you are budget conscious. For this review I’m talking about the SLS66MH2 model. This specific version is 6-feet 6-inches in length, with a fast action and medium-heavy power. Let’s take a closer look at what makes this fishing rod stand out.
Durable Construction
Starting at the blank, Shimano uses its Aeroglass fiberglass composite material. Which is lighter and more responsive then a traditional glass material.
Shimano creates a blank by layering the Aeroglass fibers in a specific pattern. Doing this achieves the desired rod action and power. It then gets coated with an epoxy resin to create a smooth, durable finish. While also being super sensitive, thus you’ll be able to feel even the slightest nibble on your bait. This is a crucial feature for any serious angler who wants to improve their catch rate.
Next, for the guides you get aluminum-oxide. These are mid-range and decent for weight and rust-resistance. During cast and retrieve the line flow is pretty smooth.
Reel attachment is via a solid locking graphite reel seat. Likewise, your touchpoints are a comfortable cork fore and rear grip handles.
Being ultra-light with a fast action, expect flex through almost the entire rod. Not just the tip like some other brands. The weight is well-balanced, making it easy to cast and retrieve.
Verdict
The Solara is an good choice for anyone looking for reliable inexpensive fishing rod. Its durable construction, sensitivity, and corrosion-resistant features make it an great investment. One that you’ll be able to enjoy for years to come. This rod is suitable for catching a variety of fish, including trout, bass, and redfish. Intenza A Review:
The new Intenza A is a redesign to maximize bass fishing in 2024. Today I’m reviewing the 7 feet 3 inches sized model. This is a one piece rod with a fast action and medium-heavy power.
What’s Diaflash?
Wrapped from the butt of the blank to the first eye guide is a cross pattern of carbon tape. This is what DIAFLASH technology is. Shimano uses it to reinforce the butt end of the rod, while reducing flex and twist. In actual use you will feel a subtle flex in the blank as it transitions after the first guide. After this fishing rod behaves as you would expect of a medium-heavy rod with fast action.
Moving on, you get 9 titanium oxide guides on this rod. These are top-of-the-line for weight and rust-resistance. Casting out spinnerbaits mimics the performance of many other brands high-end tournament models.
Shimano’s custom reel seat is very comfortable even after hours of casting. Likewise, the sculpted split cork grip handle on the Intenza A is a perfect fit for your hand. .
